Located in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, the Faccia Bruto distillery was founded in the spring of 2020 by Patrick Miller, the former executive chef of Rucola. Miller grew up in an Italian-American household, for which he credits his love for Old World Italian spirits. Early times though this may be for Miller, he can already boast three prestigious awards from the 2020 NY International Spirits Competition: one for Distillery of the Year, a Gold for his Aperitivo, and a Bronze for his Fernet Pianta. This is one of his amari, made from a blend of 13 different botanicals including orange peel, wormwood, cinnamon and cardamom, sweetened with clover honey and sugar; like all of Miller’s creations, it strikes the right balance between dark sweetness and complex bitterness.
