Four Roses dates from 1888, when founder Paul Jones Jr. trademarked the name, claiming production and sales back to the 1860s. In 1922 the Paul Jones Company bought the Frankfort Distilling Company, which was subsequently bought by Seagram. Seagram kept the brand out of the domestic market, instead promoting it aggressively in Europe and Asia, but with the purchase of the brand in 2002 by the Kirin Brewing Company, all that changed: Four Roses was once again sold in the United States beginning in 2004 and quickly earned a reputation as one of the finest names in the Bourbon world. This single-barrel bourbon, bottled at cask strength, has a huge spice bouquet with a slightly floral note; on the palate there is more spice box, a bit of pipe tobacco, and a toasted oak note, with an extremely smooth finish.
