Ginjinha or simply ginja, is a Portuguese liqueur made by infusing ginja berries (sour cherries) in alcohol and adding sugar together with other ingredients, cloves and/or cinnamon sticks being the most common. It is traditionally served in a shot glass with a piece of the fruit in the bottom of the glass. This version, from the Mariquinhas brand, totally defines the drink: it is 100% natural, without dyes or preservatives, made with only the cherries, water, sugar, and alcohol. And the cherries come exclusively from the company’s own orchards (just conjure up an alcoholic cherry pie).
