Established in 1982 in Alameda California, St. George Spirits has been acclaimed as a leading light in the American craft spirits movement. Founder Jorg Rupf’s first creations were eaux-de-vie made from local fruit and similar in style to what his own family had been distilling for generations in Germany’s Black Forest. Over the years the company’s portfolio has expanded to include a wide range of spirits, including gins, vodkas, rum, absinthe, and single malt. The newest addition to this list is the Bruto Americano, an aperitivo in the same vein as Campari. It is made from a variety of herbs, roots, and other botanicals, but gentian root gives it its dominant bitter note California-grown Seville oranges provide citrus notes. It features a woodsy mid-palate and a lingering bitter/citrus finish.
