The Tullibardine distillery is located in Perthshire, close to the Ochil Hills and the Danny Burn, their main water sources. It started life, back in 1488, as a brewery, but its modern incarnation as a distillery dates only from 1949, when distillery specialist William Delme-Evans effected the change. It changed hands a couple of times over subsequent decades, closed down in 1994, revived in 2003 by a consortium of investors, then finally acquired in 2011 by a French company, Picard Vins et Spiritueux. A rocky modern history, but Scotch aficionados are thankful for the distillery’s survival. Artisan is the distillery’s signature single malt; matured in ex-bourbon barrels, it is mild and gentle, beautifully smooth, with notes of vanilla, honey, and heather.
