After a rather checkered history of ownership throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries, Chateau Clerc Milon was acquired by Baron Philippe de Rothschild in 1970. Poorly maintained, Clerc Milon had only about 26 acres of vines in production and was little known outside of Pauillac at the time is was purchased by Baron Rothschild. The Baron described it as; “A pretty estate in a high-quality terroir, that was currently in poor condition.” Since then the estate has been completely renovated, new winemaking facilities have been constructed, and the vineyards are in the process of being completely replanted, with everything based on a green philosophy. Pastourelle, in production since the 2009 vintage, is the estate’s second wine. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, the wine has a refined and delicate nose of ripe cherries, a rounded body with slightly smoky notes, and a long, fresh, and succulent finish.
