Chateau Lafon Rochet in St. Estephe dates back to the middle of the 17th century. The estate was founded In 1650, when Antoinette de Guillemotte, brought the land of Rochette as her dowry to her husband, Pierre de Lafon. Shortly after they were married, following the custom of the day, the property was renamed, taking the family name, and Chateau Lafon Rochet was born. The property stayed with the same family for more than two centuries, then fell into disrepair; in 1959 it was bought by the Tesseron family who completely renovated the estate and brought it into the modern era Things changed in September 2021 when Chateau Lafon Rochet was sold to Jacky Lorenzetti, an experienced vineyard owner who is the owner of neighboring Chateau Lilian Ladouys, as well as Chateau Pedesclaux in Pauillac and Chateau d’Issan in Margaux. Emmanuelle Cruse is now director of the estate. The vineyards here are planted primarily to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with small amounts of Cab Franc and Petit Verdot, and the vines are kept at 37 years of age. Ranked as one of their best vintages, the 2005 is still extremely youthful, with aromas and flavors of black fruits, tobacco, and cassis.
