Founded by John Dewar & Sons Ltd., Aberfeldy was built in 1896 and opened in 1898; it is the only distillery ever built by the Dewar family. It is located where Perthshire’s highest mountain, deepest loch, and longest glen meet, historically and geographically considered the heart of Scotland. Known for making a fairly sweet style of spirit, it today is the home of the Dewar’s brand of blends. This 20-Year is Aberfeldy’s latest limited small batch expression, aged initially in a bourbon barrel before enjoying a four-year finish in sherry casks, developing a wonderful complexity. The bottling offers up notes of prunes, figs, dark honey, raspberries, cherries, charred oak, vanilla, apples, barley sugar, Sherry, cherries, dark chocolate, espresso and a little peppery spice. Just 594 bottles were produced, each hand-numbered and labeled.
