The Orphan Barrel Whiskey Company was started in 2013 by drinks behemoth Diageo with the purpose of ferreting out and bottling whiskies hidden away and nearly forgotten in the backs of distilleries and rickhouses. Forager’s Keep is the brand’s first-ever single malt. This 26-Year Pittyvaich Single Malt Scotch was sourced from one of the shortest-lived Speyside distilleries. In fact, the whisky was actually in the barrel 8 years longer than its distillery was in existence. Pittyvaich closed its doors in 1993, marking the Forager’s Keep release as some of the last barrels they ever distilled. It offers aromas of fruit and freshly cut, crisp red apple that give way to a gentle vanilla creaminess cloaking dense notes of orange peel for a mellow, warming taste with a hint of wood spices and a sweet finish.
